Buildpass is officially turning two!

May 1, 2020

Sustainability and building compliance expert. Specialising in low energy design, SAP, SBEM, BREEAM, and air testing for the construction industry,

Andrew Sadler

Lockdown or no lockdown, a birthday calls for a serious celebration; that’s why we’re raising a glass to Buildpass officially seeing in its second year!

This is going to be a bit of a different article for Buildpass, because today we’re celebrating a fantastic two years of business for our sustainability and energy efficiency consultancy.

And since Buildpass is the brainchild of our self-confessed eco-geek Director, Andrew, we thought we’d give him the floor to talk about his journey so far and his ultimate vision for Buildpass.

“They say “if you don’t like it, fix it.” And that’s exactly what I decided to do with Buildpass.”

For ten years, I worked within the sustainability industry. It was fantastic, and I was able to work alongside incredible, inspiring individuals, all hugely dedicated to their jobs.

But I also came across people and providers in the sector that didn’t quite sit right. They focused purely on ticking boxes; quick fixes and easy answers. I knew this approach was anything but sustainable.

Equally, I knew that I couldn’t give the personal service I so desperately wanted while working for bigger, already established companies. They had their ways of working. Their brands and methods were fixed and there were too many restrictions in place.

I needed to create something totally new: a service that had the capacity to go above and beyond for their clients and forever “have their back”.

Over our first two years, we have developed two sides to Buildpass.

The first is our “on the ground” work, providing consultancy support to the construction industry. For this, we’ve had some huge milestones.

Every single day I have the pleasure of working with extremely passionate and talented people across an ever diversifying portfolio of projects. In the past year especially, I have been lucky enough to work on some hugely exciting projects, including ones as far away as the Falkland Islands. Time and time again, the results we end up with on site are second to none; there really is nothing better than seeing a Site Manager’s excitement when they receive those all important results.

Our continuously high results – particularly for air tightness – leave me with great optimism for the future as we grapple with tougher carbon targets. I think we’re on the cusp of something great. This has even been formally recognised when we recently became a finalist for The Environmental Award at the SOStar Awards 2020, a nomination we will discover our fate for later this year.

This moves us into the second side of Buildpass; building a profile as an authority figure in the world of sustainability. We have progressed the company into a brand that is both a service provider and a source of valuable, educating information. We do this through our weekly articles, our social media presence, our connections with other industry leaders and our contribution to the vital conversations among policy makers and influencers.

My dream is to develop this further still so that we can sit on government steering committees and have a serious role to play in the big environmental decisions facing our country.

Which leads me onto the future of Buildpass; the big, wonderful unknown.

2020 will see us continue to develop our service offering; most recently, we have been proud to add BREEAM New Construction Assessments and Passivhaus Designer Support to our collection.

But there is so much more to come, and we are particularly interested in diving deeper into the world of embodied carbon; we really think this could be the next big thing.

We will continue to support the industry with inside knowledge and case studies through our weekly blog posts, as well as sharing guest articles with you from some of the most notable figures in the sector.

And now, it wouldn’t be an anniversary celebration without a cheesy sign off, right?

The future’s green; the future’s Buildpass.

Thanks to all of you for joining us on our journey so far!
